Privacy Policy

The short version: we collect what it takes to run your account and your brewlog, your brewlog is public, and we don’t sell your data or show you ads. We just want to talk about coffee.

This policy explains what information Brewd (“we”, “us”) collects when you use brewd.org (the “Service”), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

What we collect

What you give us

  • Your account: your email address, username and password. We store passwords only as a one-way hash, never as you typed them.
  • Your profile: a bio and profile picture, if you add them.
  • Your brewlog and activity: the coffee shops you mark as visited, the visits you log (the date, your rating, whether you liked it, whether you’d been before, and your review), and other things you do on Brewd, like your lists, the people you follow, and your likes and comments.
  • Messages: what you send through our contact form, including your name and email address.
  • Newsletter: your email address, if you sign up.

What we collect automatically

  • Server logs: like most websites, our hosting provider records requests to the Service, including your IP address, browser, the pages you visit and when. We use these to keep the Service running and secure.
  • Cookies: we use one cookie to keep you signed in. We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies, and we don’t track you across other websites.

What’s public

Brewd is a social diary, so most of what you log is public: your username, profile, brewlog entries (dates, ratings, likes and reviews), the shops you’ve visited, your lists and who you follow. Anyone can see these, signed in or not. Your email address and password are never public.

How we use it

  • to run your account and show your brewlog, profile and activity;
  • to search for coffee shops and show their details and photos;
  • to email you about your account (like resetting your password), and our newsletter if you signed up for it;
  • to answer you when you get in touch;
  • to keep Brewd secure, prevent abuse, and fix and improve the Service;
  • to meet our legal obligations.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for advertising. We share it only with the services that help us run Brewd, and only what each one needs:

  • Vercel hosts the Service.
  • Neon hosts our database.
  • Google Maps Platform powers coffee shop search, details and photos. What you type into the search goes to Google, and Google’s privacy policy applies to it.
  • Resend delivers our emails.
  • Amazon Web Services stores uploaded images.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights, property or safety of Brewd, our users or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of Brewd, in which case this policy keeps applying to your information.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as you have an account. You can delete brewlog entries whenever you like, and they’re gone from Brewd when you do. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete it and your content, except anything we have to keep to meet a legal obligation. Backups and server logs age out on their own schedule.

Your choices and rights

You can see and change most of your information on Brewd itself. To get a copy of your data, correct something you can’t edit, or delete your account, contact us. Depending on where you live (for example, in the EU, the UK or California), you may have other rights over your personal information, like the right to object to how we use it. Contact us and we’ll help, and you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, and set your browser to block cookies, though you won’t be able to stay signed in.

Security

We protect your information with encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords and limited access to our systems. No service is perfectly secure, so we can’t promise nothing will ever go wrong, but we’ll tell you if something does and it affects you.

Kids

Brewd isn’t for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you think a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Where your information lives

Our servers and service providers are in the United States, so your information is stored and processed there.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we’ll let you know on Brewd or by email before it takes effect.
